Ask: I’m looking for a botanical conditioner and gel for my curly hair. Any recos? Or, should I just buy Devacurl products?
Answer: Sadly, I haven’t had much luck with Devacurl. It makes my hair dull and a little drab, so I’m not the biggest fan. My first question back: why specifically botanical? Yes, botanical products typically contain recognizable (and pronounceable) ingredients and are infused with natural oils – all of which the hippie in me loves. But, depending on what you’re trying to achieve with your curls, some non-bot products may be just what you need.
If you’re looking specifically for botanical – here’s a link to a list gels on Naturally Curly, which I, unfortunately, know very little about, but they sound amazing: The 7 Best Botanical Gels for Shiny, Healthy Curls.
As a wavy-mane gal myself, I can safely assume that anyone going curls-out is looking for soft, shiny, frizz-free, defined curls without crunch. Just a guess 😉 I have yet to find one product that does it all, but a cocktail with a few of these gems will definitely do the trick.
Oribe Curl Gloss: This brand new glossing gel is packed full of natural extracts and gives you lightweight, crunch-free, light to medium hold while adding moisture and shine. And it smells amazing, as all Oribe products do.
Ouidad: They are the trademarked Curl Experts with a full line of products specifically for curls. Their Climate Control Heat & Humidity Gel is superb and has a great balance of hold, moisture and it wards off humidity to keep your curls from falling flat.
Miss Jessie’s: Another dedicated line of wonder products and a really affordable price point. Their Jelly Soft Curls gel for soft to medium hold gives shiny, bouncing waves or ringlets and smells powdery and perfect.
Kerastase Crème Oleo-Curl: This styling cream smells great, helps maintain color treated hair, adds amazing moisture, shine and definition. For those who want to control the volume of their curls, this will do what it promises by taming and detangling your mane.
Would love to hear from my curly-hair clan: what are your favorite products and why? XO
